  1. I loved loved LOVED the manga!! It was filled with subtle (sometimes not so subtle) comedy. A slice of life type of manga that made you wonder what if these deities truly exist and are friends with each other up there, what would they do when they take a vacation in Japan and actually living among us. The mangaka did their research well and provided heaps of each religion’s history, stigma, and teachings, without any offense to either religions.

The anime movie and OVAs that I’ve seen so far, provided a lot of the comedic snapshots from the manga. While they weren’t as satisfying as the original manga, still not bad and fun to watch.

This live action, however, completely missed the mark. I don’t think it’s the (over)acting, definitely to do with the scripts. Comedy was very forced, like pulling an impacted, partly errupted wisdom tooth kinda forced. The dialogs didn’t make sense (not subtitle/translation issue), timing was weird, even the supposedly comedic moment made you kinda “… huh?”

It’s probably another case of manga doesn’t work with live action kinda situation. I couldn’t even finish it. In fact, I couldn’t watch past the first 20 mins. Avoid, esp if you’re a fan of the manga/anime.
